Although parents can't protect children from everything, it's important to help children through tough times. Don't be afraid to let the teacher know or ask for help. Knowing what's going on in a child's life can make a difference in how a teacher introduces a new topic or gives instructions to a vulnerable or angry child. With young children a "parent-teacher" notebook can be very helpful in especially difficult times. A short note about how the school day went or what happened at home that night can help the parent and teacher work together. You can also ask a teacher, school counselor or principal about after-school programs, tutoring, summer programs or other activities that can prevent your child from falling behind. And don't hesitate to ask for help! There's a lot of support in Saint Paul for families in need. See Crisis Intervention at Saint Paul Learns! | ||||||||||
