Attend school functions

All Saint Paul schools have events like a fall open house, parent-teacher conferences (fall and spring), and many other family activities designed to help you get to know the school community.

Make every effort to attend these functions.

If work or a family emergency makes it impossible to attend, send a note to your child's teacher - let the teacher know you couldn't attend, but tell him or her that you welcome any notes or phone calls informing you of your child's progress.

While you're in the building, examine your childs school environment.

Look around you at the classrooms and displays. They are a good indication of the learning thats taking place at the school. Here are some things to look for:

  • Pay special attention to student work that is shown on bulletin boards or throughout the rest of the building.

  • Take note of the special facilities:

    *  What's available for children and parents in the school media center?
    *  Is there a science or computer lab?
    *  Are there specific rooms for art, music and other subjects?

  • Get a sense of your child's daily routine.

    *  Where is your childs locker?
    *  Where do the children go to eat lunch?
    *  Where do students gather for the bus at the end of the day?
