- Simple Stuff.
- ^U works to underline text just like it does in other word processing software even though it doesn't appear in the task bar
- ^Z works to "step backward" or undo what you just did, just like it does in other word processing software
- Cut & Paste functions work the same as in other word processing software
- Auto "Log Off" - The system automatically logs you off after so many minutes of inactivity (I don't know what the limit is, but it's not long in "mom terms" when interruptions are frequent). Unfortunately, if you're adding text within a single page vs. saving and moving between pages, the system thinks you're inactive.
Work Around: Save frequently when you're working within a single page or create the page in another word processing program and then cut and paste through Notepad into Urban Planet. Caution: Save immediately WHENEVER the phone rings.
- IMPORTANT: Copying and pasting from other Web pages or PC-based software programs (I don't know anything about Mac environments).
MS Word adds a lot of gobbledygook HTML coding; Web pages have embedded coding (such as font styles) that you don't want to "pull into" these pages (plus whatever hidden cookie stuff might be lurking).
It is VERY important that you ALWAYS use this "Work Around" when copying and pasting from external sources.
Getting Started: From your Desktop, find "Notepad" under Start > All Programs > Accessories "Right click" on it to create a new icon. Drag the new icon to your Desktop. Close Accessories. Find the new icon on your Desktop and drag it down to your task bar, at bottom. This creates a handy link to Notepad for future use.
Work Around: Open Notepad whenever you plan to cut and paste text from ANY outside source. Copy the text into Notepad first, then copy from Notepad into Urban Planet. This strips out ALL embedded coding, including hyperlinks.
If the text you're copying includes an embedded hyperlink, copy the text into Notepad as described above, then return to the source, right click on the hyperlinked text, select "Copy Shortcut" and paste the shortcut into Notepad above or below your text. Reset the hyperlink from within Urban Planet using the "infinity" icon in the task bar above the text box. See Setting Hyperlinks for more detailed instructions.
NOTE: You do not have to do this if copying from within an Urban Planet Web site, whether this one or any other KNOWN Urban Planet site such as Saint Paul Public Schools sites. You can directly copy and paste text and embedded hyperlinks from Urban Planet pages with the source page set at either "View Site" or "Edit Mode" both work.
ADDITIONAL NOTE: Notepad commonly strips out apostrophes, e.g., "Minnesotan's" becomes "Minnesotans" - watch for these.
